Did I Dream You Dream About Me?

Private client. Sleeve design, packaging design and art direction.

Completed 2014.

A new wave/post-punk sampler of sorts, this compilation's sleeve is an homage to that of Talking Heads' "This Must Be The Place" single...

A gorgeous song that is, of course, featured on the compilation...

The open palm gesture is inspired by depictions of Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction, who - despite her fearsome appearance - is typically seen holding one of her hands, palm out, in a gesture intended to mean "don't be afraid"...

The title comes from a line from the featured Minimal Man song "To Hold You", which is a beautiful love song...

The questions "Did I dream you dream about me?" evokes a question of the link between lovers, even in distance; a link that, while beautiful, can also be frightening in its intensity and mystery...

Hence the Kali-inspired, "don't be afraid" gesture...

The abstracted hands - one male and one female - also evoke a feeling of reaching out through space for one another...

Adding to the idea of romantic longing.
